Slow Javascript Performance in Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer suffers from significantly slower javascript performance than other modern browsers. A simple search of "javascript performance internet explorer" will turn up much content all indicating very significant performance problems with javascript in Internet Explorer. These performance issues can negatively impact user experience for some of the tools that make use of interactive javascript charts and graphs. The tools on this site have been tested on many browsers and all have been found to provide good performance, with the exception of Internet Explorer, because of javascript performance issues and for a lack of support for rendering base64 image data in the browser, which is required for the Weibull analysis tool.
Solutions:
1. Install a new browser, such as Google Chrome or Firefox.
2. If you want/need to continue working with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome Frame offers an excellent solution. Google Chrome Frame is a plug-in for Internet Explorer that seamlessly brings Google Chrome's open web technologies and speedy JavaScript engine to Internet Explorer. See this page for further details on this plug-in. It's free, installs in seconds and is good for Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 on Windows 7 / Vista / XP SP2 or greater.
Note, Google Chrome Frame also solves the problem of Internet Explorer not rendering base64 image data in the browser, which is a requirement for the Weibull analysis tool.
3. Select only a single check box to plot only one chart, or do not use the plotting capability offered by various tools. Many tools have multiple charts on a page. IE users should stick to plotting only a single chart that is of the most interest to them. Testing has indicated that even a single chart often can take 30 or more seconds to render in IE, while multiple charts can take over a minute to render. The same charts typically take less than 3 seconds to render in other modern browsers.
